Each week, one of you will present a short message on how we can be better Gospel teachers, learners, or technology users. You can do this assignment as individuals or as pairs if you are in the online class, but in the face-to-face class you must do it as pairs. To complete the assignment, review the topic of teaching, learning, or technology in the scriptures or the words of modern prophets, and then create a presentation of no more than 3 slides highlighting the most important ideas. This is an opportunity to practice effective presentation principles! This means don’t just read the text of your slides to us, try to use images (with permission and give credit), and try to make it engaging. I’m still working on that too. You can search on the Web for PowerPoint tips, and I saved a few to our Diigo group.
Note for face-to-face students: You must use Google presentations for this assignment. This is much quicker than trying to load your Powerpoint on the podium computer from a key drive. Plus, you will get to learn Google presentations, which is very easy to learn and functions just like Powerpoint.
Note to online students: You must use Voicethreads, so that I can attach your presentation to my own for that week. To create your presentation in Voicethreads, do the following:
1. Create your presentation first in PowerPoint
2. Log in to Voicethread.com, click on “create” and then “upload.” Browse to your presentation and upload the PowerPoint.
3. Click on “comment” and go through your presentation on each slide leaving a comment.
4. Click on “share” and invite me to view your voicethread, giving me editing privileges by clicking on the pencil icon so I can attach my own voicethread to yours. This tutorial shows you how to give me these editing privileges and how to make sure it is public for everyone to see/comment on.
Schedule
The following is a schedule of who is presenting each week. I also have provided potential references for you, but you can also find your own. A couple of weeks have resources that I would prefer you to use because it ties into our class discussion. In addition, I have Preach My Gospel, Teach Ye Diligently, Teaching No Greater Call, and Teaching by the Spirit that you can borrow and use for your presentations. Try to not use the same resource that someone else has used a previous week, unless you have new insights to share.
