In winter semester, the McKay School will host a competition for groups of 2 or more undergraduate students to submit innovative instructional solutions to challenges in specific subjects. Because the contest requires that the solutions utilize technology, it is an obvious fit for students in our class. In fact, in Winter 2010, one team from my class won third place (a cash prize), using technologies that you will learn in this class.
I believe that you will learn more and be more naturally motivated if you are completing an activity that isn’t just homework, but is part of something larger (remember that the winning team gets $4,000!). Thus, I strongly support you in molding our assignments in this class so that they can be an entry to the competition next semester.
If you want to submit your work for this class to the competition, here’s the adjustments you need to make:
- Your final personal technology project will be your submission, so you can work in groups of 2-3 to create a larger, better-defined project.
- Your multimedia project should be a video demonstration of your project (see the examples from last year).
- Your class website should have a page where you will post all of your entry materials.
For more details, view this video and check out the website for the competition. Also, check out the winners from last year!
